A brides stop-motion

Last month I shot a wedding alongside my good friend Dvora Orbach. During the make-up part of the preparations there is no need for two photographers and so I stepped aside, but instead of just watching it all happen, I set my camera on a tripod at a corner of the room, and snapped a gazillion frames, all to create a short stop-motion video of the entire process. It was quite fun to shoot, and even more to edit and create the video afterwards. I chose "Hey there Delilah" by "The Plain Whit T's" as it seemed appropriate for this great couple who met and fell for each-other at first site. Hope you like it :)

Wedding Prep stop-motion

On November 10th, the day before my someone and I tied the knot, we were setting up his parent's house for the event. We set up my camera on a tripod at the corner of the room and everyone took their turn in clicking the shutter. The result was over 4000 frames of us setting up the place, and so I had only one thing to do with it all- a stop-motion video.

DIY Cake Toppers

A couple of months ago when my someone and I decided to split our wedding in to two separate events, I was completely over the moon with joy, when I realized I will get do design our entire Chuppah event, as it will take place at his parents house. I had a million ideas in my head, and so many inspirations from all my favorite wedding blogs. My someone was as equally thrilled as he loves DIY projects. And so together we chose the color scheme, thought about how we'd set the tables, shopped for accessories, and figured out the decor.

We found an amazing Caterer who has also taken an active role in helping us design everything just the way we've envisioned it.

Though it's not traditional in Jewish weddings, I really wanted a wedding cake. I found a great baker who will create a wedding cake that is combined of both cupcakes and a one tier cake. But what's a wedding cake without the toppers?

So, I shopped around Etsy.com and found some wooden figurines- a blank canvas. I first sketched my design on them with pencil and then with some acrylic paint, and a few accessories, I created my mini someone and mini me :)

Since my someone & I got engaged at the end of August we've been busy planning our upcoming nuptials. The one decision we took straight off was that we'll be splitting it into two separate events- The religious part, and the celebratory part. I'll explain...
In a traditional Jewish wedding we perform a ceremony called The Chuppah. Similar to all ceremonies of all religions and colors, this is the part in which you become husband & wife. In Judaism it is mostly the husband that pledges and the wife accepts. The husband signs the "wedding agreement" which is called The Ketubah, the husband puts a ring on his wife's finger (there isn't a mutual ring exchange), and at the end the husband breaks a glass. The wife simply stands there to accept it all. That's not really what defines my someone and myself, but in the state of Israel, though it's a democracy, religion still takes a huge part, and when it comes to marriage, there is a big difference in the benefits and rights you get as a couple if you were married religiously (and that means by an Orthodox Rabbi and not Reform Rabbi). The problem with having the Chuppah performed by an Orthodox Rabbi is that it affects the entire wedding- If you get married on Friday, the wedding needs to end before the Shabbat enters, you cannot marry on Saturday, you must serve Kosher food, and you must serve Kosher beverages.
My someone and I are not religious at all, but we understand that it would be to our benefit to have our ceremony performed by an Orthodox Rabbi. Our compromise- we split the wedding in two. The first part is the Chuppah, which will be held at my someone's parents house on Nov. 11th, 2011 (11.11.11). It will be a small gathering of just immediate family, and we'll be serving lunch right after the ceremony. The second part is the wedding celebration to which we'll be inviting family and friends, and that would be on May 25th, 2012. We would still have a ceremony at the wedding but this time it will be non-religious and a good friend of ours will be performing it. This way the wedding can go on well into the night, on a Friday night, and we don't have to worry about Kosher food or beverages.
We're busy organizing the first event which is fast approaching!

Neta & Barrett's E-Session

A couple of months ago I had the pleasure of photographing Neta & Barrett's engagement session. Though they are already legally married, as they had a civil service abroad, they wanted to do an E-Session before their official wedding that will be celebrated with all their loved ones.
Neta, a native Israeli, was working at a mall in the U.S. when she met Barrett. Barrett was just hanging at the mall with a friend when he noticed Neta, and the rest is history. After several years of dating, long-distance at most, they have finally joined forces and decided to make it official. Their big day is fast approaching, and in honor of that I wanted to share with you some of the shots we got that day. I can't wait for the wedding :)

It's been a really busy Summer, and it seems the beginning of Fall is no exception. I've been extremely busy with wedding shoots, and work at the restaurant, and now to top it all, I am starting to be busy with planning our own wedding. It's all good though, I really am not complaining! I just wish I had more time to invest in telling you all about everything that's going on...
Perhaps in a few weeks when the holidays kick in, I will have a bit more down time to relax and write some posts. I have many photos to share with you from all my couples weddings :)
Now, on a completely different note, I am excited to tell you about something I did, that I have been wanting to do for the past couple of years... Do you remember this post? It was almost a year ago that I wrote it, and since then it's been on my mind. But that's where it stayed. I didn't really get around to it until a few months ago when I got a friendly Facebook note informing me that my friend Stella is in Tattoo school, and will be soon accepting volunteers to ink as part of her training. Now that might sound a bit dodgy to most, as ink is so permanent and well, she's still learning, but I had complete faith in her. She's a talented artist all on her own, and I somehow knew I would be in safe hands. (Plus she inked four other volunteers before she came around to me...)
So this past Monday my someone & I (and the camera) went to get inked. I got inked, my someone just documented the whole process :)
I am extremely happy with the result, and I am so grateful to Stella for doing it! What do you guys think?

The ring was designed by my someone and the ring maker, Kalanit Torbati. He knew I didn't really fancy diamonds and so he chose my favorite stone, Blue Sapphire, to be placed on this ring.
I am absolutely elated!

A special Wedding

A couple of weeks ago I shot a very special wedding. This was the wedding of Gili & Aharon, and it took place at the cave in Beit Govrin in Israel. I have shot many weddings before, all of which were Jewish weddings, but this was my first traditional religious Jewish wedding. The difference is in the details. Everything is more meaningful, every action has a reason, and the feeling of that entire day was more spiritual and holy.
Gili & Aharon did not see each-other for seven days before the wedding. In fact, they did not see each-other on the wedding day until just moments before the Huppa, when Aharon came and covered Gili with the veil. When their eyes re-met each-other at that special moment you could feel how much they love one another, and how much they've waited to reunite again. At the end of the ceremony, surrounded by chanting and dancing friends & family, Gili & Aharon were lead to their private room to spend their first moments together as husband & wife. Even the dancing at this wedding felt special & unique. The vibes and energy that everyone brought to this wedding were let out in their dancing, and I must say, this felt as the most joyous wedding party I have ever shot.

Talking about a revolution...

In the past month, give or take, there has been a revolution stirring up here in Israel. What had started on the pages of Facebook, an "event" calling people to come and live in tents in the center of Tel-Aviv, is now a full-bodied protest carried out in all corners of the country. It started with a simple cry-out for affordable housing, as opposed to the current situation of sky-rocketing rent prices and un-achievable price tags for buying a home. Since then every aspect of living has been added to this protest, all under the blanket of social justice.
It started with students & young couples, then the doctors & interns joined in, then the farmers, the mothers, the independents & freelancers, the therapists, the social workers, EVERYONE. Well, everyone but those who sit high and mighty at the head of the state and the markets, those who can afford to buy us all, they haven't joined in...
Last Saturday night, and every Sat. night for the past three weeks, hundreds of thousands of people took out to the streets all over the country to protest. It was civil. No violence. Nothing but unity and a feeling of one-for-all. With their signs raised up high, everyone chanted "The people demand social justice". My someone and I were among them and it was a humbling experience to be part of what could be an important milestone in the history of our country.
Where would this take us? I have to say I am a bit skeptic about the outcome, but only time will tell. The solution will not be a quick fix, but even if takes a few years to take effect, at least we've made a difference for our future.

Family trip - Rosh Pina

Last weekend my someone and I went on a family trip up north, with his parents, brothers, and his brother's girlfriend. My someone's mom loves to organize these trips and since the beginning of our relationship I've been lucky to join them on the last three trips. This one was a special trip because it was an over-nighter :)
As always, we headed towards an unknown destination (my someone's mom loves to keep those a secret and have us guessing till the very last moment...). All we had was her instructions- to bring proper shoes for walking in water (?!?).
Our first stop was at Elyakim Forest, which is in the Carmel area in northern Israel. We entered the park for the traditional family breakfast picnic of my someone's mom homemade Jachnun. When everyone got out of the car and started organizing everything for our feast, I decided to pull out the camera and snap away. I wanted to do a full series of shots to later create a little stop motion video (soon to come...). After a hearty meal, with our stomachs full to the T, we got back in the cars and continued north.
After driving for about an hour more, we pulled onto a little gravel road that lead us to an opening on the Dan River, next to the village Sh'ar Yeshuv. That was our starting point for a short-long hike in the river's path. I think it was about 800 meters all together, but the path was rough, with sometimes fast-flowing water, that at some points reached up to our waists, with trees and branches blocking our way, and so it felt a lot longer :) I must admit that I had a breaking point somewhere along the way, when I just couldn't see myself going through a path that seemed impossible at the time, but with the patience and help of my someone I persevered and made it through (with a smile!). A few hours later we were back at the cars ready to move on.
We followed my someone's parents to Rosh Pina, where we pulled into our quaint boutique hotel. We were pleasently surprised to find a charming little hotel, with an inner courtyard, romantic rooms to nest in, and an orchard in the back. The owner, Shulamit, welcomed us at the door, showed us around, and offered us some coffee and homemade cookies. We were in heaven! And if that wasn't enough, the cherry on our fabulous cake was that we had the place all to ourselves, as there were no other guests staying there that weekend! We settled into our rooms, and then my someone & myself grabbed our cameras and started photographing the place.
We spent that afternoon just lazying around and playing games. I brought my favorite pass-time game, Yahtzee, and taught the rest of the bunch how to play. We played all afternoon, and then some more the next morning. I think I created a monster by teaching his dad how to play... The minute he understood the game he started beating us all (He even got THREE yahtzee's in one game!!)
When it was time to leave we were all a bit sad. We had such a great time together that it was almost painful having to go back to reality...

For my third installment of this series, I decided to focus on another make-it-or-break-it factor in weddings- The food. You can do everything right in a wedding, wear the most beautiful gown, choose an amazing venue, hire a fantastic DJ, but if your food's a miss then that might end up being that one detail people will never forget about your magical day... That's huge. For me as the photographer first and foremost the food needs to photograph well, and then if it tastes good as well, that's just my added bonus :)

Last week I started a series of posts focusing on everything that makes a wedding, apart from the obvious- The bride & the groom. I started it off with my favorite and most dear to my heart, the children at weddings. So shall we continue...?
I'm sure anyone who's ever been to a wedding would agree that the venue, the place in which it all takes place, can either make a wedding or break it. I've been to some weddings in which my heart flattered as I was walking in to the place, venues that are magical & romantic. And I've been to some that well, lets just say they were located right next to a gas station...

It's been over a year since I've decided to focus my photography on weddings, and so far it's been wonderful. I've met some inspiring couples, heart warming families, and some interesting guests. Each wedding is different, it takes place in a different setting, it has its own vibe and atmosphere, and so my work is ever-changing.
Most of the time when I post photos from a recent wedding, I stick to the bride & groom photos, and while those are usually my favorites out of the entire day, there's so much more to capture throughout the day. With that in mind I've decided to do a series of posts in which I will share some of the other stuff that makes a wedding so magical. I'll start with my personal soft spot- Children. There isn't a wedding without at least one little cute child, and I am drawn to them like a magnet. Here are some of my favorites...

A happy growing family

This last Sat. I was asked to come and photograph a special family. Mom & dad have two beautiful young boys, and are expecting a baby sister that will complete their family. This was meant to be a maternity shoot, but it evolved to something so much more than that!
I was greeted at the door by dad, and as soon as I entered the home their younger son declared his objection to be photographed. He kept chanting "I don't feel like it" every time mom or dad were trying to persuade him. I even offered to have him hold my camera and take a few snaps, but he wouldn't budge. His older brother on the other hand was very happy to pose and show-off to the camera :)
In any case, the plan was that I would start off with just mom, and we figured dad would take the boys outside to blow-off some energy, and then join us an hour later. So after the three boys left mom & I started snapping away. It was a fun session and mom was very natural and relaxed. When the boys came back we were ready to start our family part of the shoot. Of course we heard a few more "I don't feel like it", but after I started off with mom, dad, and older brother, he came along, and was quite the poser!

May wedding

A couple of weeks ago I officially opened wedding season, and I couldn't have done it with a better wedding than this one. Linor & Evgeny are such an inspiring couple, and their wedding reflected their free-spirited, nature-loving, artistic personalities. Linor is a fellow Etsy seller, a very creative artist, and as such she had to put some DIY touches in her wedding- there were paper flowers spread all over, hand-decorated flower pots with yellow and white daisies, and hand-made gifts for their guests. The wedding was set in a beautiful green garden, the bride & groom were glowing, and the wedding was unforgettable!

Salt of the Earth

A few months ago I was asked by a friend if I wanted to photograph and design a poster for her short film titled "Salt of the Earth". This is her final assignment, a student film, and as such there was a very tight budget. Though there was no money in it for me, this was an interesting shoot, and I was definitely interested.
The first step was to actually watch the movie. See what it's all about and try and figure out the best scenario for the poster shoot. In general, the movie's about two friends who traveled to the U.S. to work in what we call "Agalot" which is the various product stands you see in malls all over the States. The "Agalot" job is a means to an end- they are planning to use whatever money they've saved up and travel to South America. This is not an unusual story. Every year hundreds if not thousands of Israelis come to the U.S. to work at such jobs and save up as much as they can for their travels. This movie presents us with a bigger dilemma when one of the girls debates whether she should leave and go travel, which was the original purpose and dream, or should she stay and make more money, which might have now become her main purpose.
So after watching the movie, we decided on the scene we'd like to shoot, and then scouted the location. This needed to look like it was shot in the U.S. It took us a while to get everyone on board, arranging the exact date with the lead actress, getting the props and outfit for the shoot, and finally two weeks ago we did it.
After choosing the best shot, working and editing, arranging the necessary logos, inserting credits and such, we finally had a poster. Two actually, as she needed one in Hebrew as well as one in English.

Thank you! Thank you my amazing blog friends! Right after I posted last week I received a warm welcome from all of you which warmed my heart and put a huge smile on my face! Thank you!
So I promised I'd post a few more images from my grand day, and I'm keeping to my word :)

BTW, if you hadn't noticed before, I got a haircut for the summer... I'm still trying to get used to it. Maybe when it grows a couple of inches I'll be happier... :)

It's been forever...

Should I start with an apology...?
I've been gone for about a month from blogland. Not intentionally if I may add, but the fact is I haven't been around, and for that I am apologizing. April has been a very busy month for me and I just couldn't seem to find the time to sit down and update my blog, or even get updated on all those other blogs I love so much!
So what was I so busy with? Well, I'll start with the mundane- work at the restaurant. April was the month of Passover, which meant holiday, which meant increased numbers of customers, which meant increased amount of shifts I had to work... You get the picture, right? But this was all good, as April was my last month of working full time at the restaurant. I'm finally at a point where I can commit to my photography almost full time. So I've been busy preparing, arranging, and just getting some sort of business plan done, so I can start off right.
April was also the month in-which I celebrated my birthday. My 33rd birthday! It was one of the best birthdays I've celebrated thus far. It started off with a pampering massage given by my someone, then a surprise mail delivery of my You See i See book copy, then breakfast at La Gaterie and a stroll in the sunny streets of Tel Aviv, then dinner at Toto, and to finish off that day with a bang we went for drinks with our friends at the local bar the Norma Jean.
I of course have a thousand photos from that day, and from days that followed, and I promise to put it all up on here, just not all at once :) I also promise to try and update you guys more often, and to not disappear for so long ever again!

Fifty Two weeks

A little over a year ago Laura and I started a little photo project together. Many of you have followed with us as we came up with the idea, helped us create the list, and visited week after week to find out what we have come up with for our images. This was a one year project. Fifty two weeks. On March 15th we posted our last post of the project, but while those wonderful fifty two weeks are over, Laure and I are not yet done with You See i See. Just wait and see what we have in store...

Happy Products for Happy People

A few weeks ago my someone and I went on a stroll in the nearby flea market. Even though we've been through the market and everything around it about a million times, we always find something new that we haven't seen before. Sometimes it's a new restaurant or coffee shop that pops out of nowhere, sometimes it's just an item in a shop we've past by many times before, but haven't noticed it. We love exploring and discovering new gems in there. Well, this time it was a brand new shop. It opened up a few months ago, but I guess we haven't really paid attention until now. What caught our eye to begin with was a giant elephant sculpture created out of scraps of driftwood. Inside the shop we discovered a wonderland of beautiful furniture, decor items, lighting fixtures, and tableware. We were seriously drooling over everything in that store, holding tight to our wallets. This is not a store for people in our financial situation...
But it wasn't all out of our reach. In the corner of my eye I spotted the most cheerful coffee/tea set, alongside tea pots & sugar bowls, and cake stands. They are made by a wonderful company called PiP Studio (Pasionate inspirational Products) from Amsterdam. on the bottom of their products they write "Happy products for happy People". Just what I was looking for! I was all kinds of happy. Needless to say I wanted to get it all on the spot. But I didn't. And so for the next few weeks all I could think of was getting their cappuccino set.
Yesterday while my someone and I were out at the market I led us straight to that store. I scattered around until I saw my coveted set. With no hesitation I grabbed the blue set and awarded myself with my happy gift! Hurray!
I do have plans to expand my PiP collection in the future, but in the meantime I am quite content with seeing everything I like on their creatively fun website.

My New Wedding Site

If you're in the photo business in Israel there is one place you want to be - mitchatnim.co.il which translates to "Getting married". That is the mother of all wedding resource sites and it has been around for quite some time now. If you're a bride-to-be (ok, and sometimes a groom-to-be) in Israel, probably the first site you're going to look at will be this one, as it hosts every service you might be looking for - venues, dress makers, Caterers, wedding planners, DJ's, and of course, photographers. If you're a service provider on there you have your own little mini-site that's created uniquely for you in which you show off your work, your services, and contact information.

Though I have been photographing weddings for a while, I didn't start off with a mini-site on there as it doesn't come cheap and I wasn't ready to make that investment... Until now. Last month I contacted mitchatnim.co.il to find out about their vendor packages, and I closed the deal. I met with the designer they assigned for me, and together we decided on the look of my site, with a few template limitations of course. It took her a couple of weeks to get it all done, and then on Wed. morning it was ready!

Last week as I was getting my face on for work, my someone grabbed my camera and started snapping away. I love it when he picks up the camera and shoots. He does it so well, and his style is so similar to mine. Makes me wonder if he has always shot that way, or perhaps a little of me has rubbed on to him....
Now if you ask me, he should give up his profession and come join me as a partner in my wedding photography business. Wouldn't you agree...?

Five stars re-design

Oh I can't express how glad i am to be blogging again! I've been wanting to put up this post four days ago and then our internet failed to connect. You see, it's been raining cats & dogs here for three days, which means it's very likely for system failures, and it just so happens that our internet line provider had a system failure in our area... Great. By the way, it's still not fixed.Although the system failure in the area has been fixed, for some unknown reason, our modem decided to play not nice with us, and it refuses to connect. Not just that it refuses to connect, it's frozen, with it's four lights constantly lit (they're supposed to flicker as a sign of communication...). We phoned the customer service line yesterday evening, and the conclusion was that we need a repair guy to come and fix the problem, BUT, since we live in Shabbat-keeping-Israel, they can only send the repair guy on Sunday, when the Shabbat is over... Great again... I was so frustrated last night with the thought of not having internet all day Saturday (which I finally have off from work...), when I got my salvation... We were over at my someone's parents house for dinner, and told my someone's dad about the internet problems we've been having. Then, he pulls out a USB modem he got a while back from Orange (communication provider) and gave it to us. Hurray!! So now, I can finally blog :)

OK, so back the original subject of this post... About a month ago I was asked by a good friend to come and shoot a room he & his team have re-designed at the David Intercontinental hotel here in Tel-Aviv. What an honor for them to have gotten this opportunity, and what a privilege for me to be able to photograph it all!

Back in January I entered a photo competition held by wix.com on Facebook. Participants were instructed to print out a pre-made "wix was here" sign, in an size they'd like, and use it in their image in any original way they could think of. The winner will be the person who got the most amount of votes, and he or she will receive a trip for two to New York City (!)
So I got my wheels working and though up a concept, printed out the wix sign real small, and shot it inside my Cheerios bowl. (you can see it here). Then for the next three weeks I campaigned as hard as I could, here & on Facebook, trying to get the help of my friends in voting for my entry. My friends came through. You guys came through. I've received so many votes that for the most part of the competition I was among the top 20 (out of about 650-700 entries!). But I guess it just wasn't enough, cause a Mexican guy with a cowboy hat and a mustache got the jackpot. Congrats to him.
But it's not all bad folks, I did get a special tribute prize! The Wix peeps decided to grant four of the participants a $100 gift voucher to be used on Amazon.com. Hurray!
Thanks to all who took the time and voted for me! Just let me know when I can return the favor :)

A while back I caught a blog post on my dear friend Andrea Despot's blog. She's a great blogger & also a very talented photographer. The post was about her new postcards that she had just listed on Etsy. They had round edges, which I absolutely love (!!) and that got me intrigued. I asked her about where she had gotten them printed from, and she informed me it was from overnightprints.com. She even offered to mail me a postcard so I can see for myself what they looked like. A week later I got her card in the mail. How sweet! Besides the fact that I just loved her photo, I was definitely pleased with the quality and look of it all. So much so, that I had decided to order some for myself. I got the design ready, uploaded everything to the site and got my order done... until it was shipping calculations time... Want to try and guess how much was it going to cost me, just the shipping part, for 3 packs of 20 5x7 cards from the U.S. to Israel...? well, it was about $80. No kidding. I thought I made a mistake with the address or something. This was about 3 times the cost of what I was shipping. I was frustrated. But then Andrea came to my rescue! She suggested I'd have them ship the package to her (since she lives in the U.S.) and then she will ship it to me. The difference in shipping costs? about a quarter of the cost! Well, to make a long story short I ordered the postcards, that got shipped to Andrea, who shipped them to me, and they have arrived nice and safely. Thanks Andrea!

Week forty eight's subject over on You See i See was Fruit. I wanted to photograph an image that will not fall short of all those inspiring photographs on my favorite food blogs. Though I had the vision in my head, bringing it to action turned a bit difficult. I am not a food photographer by profession, and therefor I am unprepared when it comes to all the necessary accessories- pretty plates, cups, glass-ware ; an assortment of fabrics and tea-towels and such ; interesting backgrounds as well as table-tops. So I had to make do with what was around in my kitchen, as well as use my one & only table top (which I love so much, that I end up using it almost every time!).
At the end of it all, I am actually quite pleased with the end result, but I did come to a decision. I am going to invest a little in stacking up some of the items I am missing, so I can have them around for whenever the opportunity presents itself again...

Ever since we moved to our apartment on the outskirts of Yafo I've been obsessed with sunsets. How could I not be when almost every afternoon there is a natural display of light, colors, and clouds in the sky in front of our eyes?! It's become just about a daily routine for me, to glance out the window when the sun starts setting down west right into the Mediterranean sea. I even have my camera set on my desk, near the window, so if needed it would be at my service. The rooftops of old Yafo, and the palm trees on the hill in front of the sea, make for the perfect background to these amazing sunsets. And I simply can not stop capturing them!

As you may already know, apart from being a striving photographer I am also employed as a shift manager in one of Tel-Aviv's finest restaurants - "Dallal" (that means pleasure or pampering in Arabic). Every so often at Dallal there is a menu change of some sorts and that is always accompanied by a promotional photoshoot of the new dishes. This time it's the dessert menu that has undergone a complete redesign, and so last week we had a complete photoshoot done with a food photographer & a food stylist. Though I wasn't asked to photograph the desserts I was asked to come along and photograph the 'behind the scenes' of the set. Here are some of the images. You can see the rest here

I might have mentioned somewhere in the history pages of this blog that I've created my website using the Wix platform. If you haven't visited Wix you are missing out. As far as I'm concerned, it is the best solution for people like me, who want to control and update their site, but know nothing about programing.
But I am getting beside the subject... Wix has recently launched a really cool contest in which one must submit a photo using the "Wix was here" sign somewhere in it. There are some funny submissions, along with some weird ones, and even some artistic entries. This is mine...

A different Wedding

Last week I shot an untraditional wedding. It was held in a club, there was no Rabbi or an official ceremony, or any ring exchanges, and the bride & groom weren't dressed like your average couple. How fun!
The bride wore a light blue vintage dress, purchased on Etsy, leopard Jimmy Choo heels, and instead of a veil she had a flower and net piece in her hair. To finish it off she wore a fo fur vintage cote. She looked like a Holywood starlet. The groom was wearing a vintage floral light blue shirt that complimented his bride's dress, dark denims, a brown jacket, and for the final touch, a brown fedora.
I chose Chen Blvd. in Tel Aviv as our location to photograph the couple before the wedding, as I thought it would be a great setting for those two. Indeed it proved to be just perfect, and I had the most amazing time photographing them.
Congratulations Yohay & Galia. I wish many many years of happiness with each-other!

Birthday list Update

Back in October I posted up my 32 Things To Do Before I'm 33 list. It's been three months now, mid-way to my birthday and thus far I've only completed FOUR items out of 32. I have just three months to attempt completing 28 items, and though anything's possible, I am a bit skeptic about succeeding in this task. I can unfortunately guarantee you that items 7 and 19 will not be completed this time around.
So what have I checked off my list?

Item # 3 - 'finish the work station of my dreams' . It was one of the best projects my someone & I have done, and it was all thanks to his amazing dad! You can read all about it here as well as see photos of the whole process.
Item # 8 - 'Get my taxes/business properly sorted and registered' . It was a long process but I am glad to say that as of today I am all sorted out, properly registered and finally filed my 2009 tax forms (I was just a little bit late.... just a little)
Item # 22 - 'find the perfect little black dress' . Back in November I went shopping with my friend Jen and we visited my favorite shop "Liligrace". I can never go wrong there! I found the perfect little black tunic, which is actually more like a dress, and it's got pockets (which is what makes it perfect in my eyes!). But my luck didn't end there- last week I was looking for something to wear for a good friends' wedding, and I went straight to Liligrace. I found the most perfect little black skirt and guess what it's got? Yep, it has pockets(!!)
Item # 25 - 'spend a weekend away with my someone doing NOTHING' . Let me just say that this is definitely THE best item to check off this list :) So my someone and I took off for a mid-week weekend and it was amazingly good! See our recap here
OH, and I am almost done with item # 28 !

Lightning Storm

Friday started off as a nice sunny winter day, with clear blue skies, and not a cloud in sight. My someone and I actually spent most of that day outdoors, eating breakfast outside and running errands. By night fall the weather has completely shifted and it turned cold and cloudy. Then around 9:30 pm as I was relaxing at home I started noticing weird flashes out the window every few minutes. Later some thunders came too. I stepped out to the balcony and was mesmerized! I have never seen a real lightning storm before then and this was such a sight I had to run and snap a few shots. These photos were taken with my camera hand-held so they don't even show half of what was really going on. Still, I am quite proud of myself for getting something... Do you like?

Our Mid-Week Weekend

I'd like to start this post by apologizing for my absence. I was away for a few days up north with my someone, and then when we got back Wednesday afternoon I had to get right back in to work, and I've been working every day since. I finally managed to find some free time to edit the photos from our wonderful vacation of nothingness and I am thrilled to share them with you.
We spent two nights at a little boutique Bed & Breakfast called Osnata, located at Kfar Vradim in Western Galilee (Israel of course...). We spent every moment indulging on food, wines, nature hikes, jacuzzi dips, and most of all, relaxing. Here are bits of mid-week weekend

vacation of nothingness!

After three weeks in active reserves service my someone is finally done! He received a second time off on account of his last days of service and so technically he's in service until January 6th, but he will be already off duty tomorrow, January 3rd, which means he doesn't have to be anywhere- not in the army, and not at work!

To celebrate such a rare occasion I decided to take my weekly two days off work on Monday & Tuesday, January 3rd & 4th so we could spend some time together. (I work 5 days a week at the restaurant, so I get two days off every week...). But we didn't just take the time off, we actually booked a little romantic cottage at a little boutique hotel called Osnata, located up north at a village called Kfar Vradim (Rose Village). We'll be spending two nights there, enjoying some much needed R&R. We'll be sipping champagne in our own private jacuzzi overlooking the wonderful Western Galilee views.

A few weeks ago the talented Danni of Oh Hello Friend started a series of posts on her blog titled Twelve Days of Cheer. What she offered was 12 days of last minute holiday gift opportunities for a lesser price than usual. She had a bunch of generous shops on there such as Ginko Papers, Kylie Parry, Sew Lola, Spread The Love, Apt. 2B Baking Co. , and many more. I really wanted to buy some of those items, but as it turned out, most of them were only available for US/Canada shipping. Then on the twelfth day Danni offered something of her own shop, something I've been wanting for a long time- one of her gorgeous pocket watches!! And hurray hurray, it was open for anyone, anywhere in the world (!!) There was no hesitation on my part! I immediately proceeded with the "Buy it Now" process and I waited. A couple of days ago I got that little note in the mail telling me something special has arrived for me and I should come pick it up. hurray. I dashed out all excited. And then I had it. Now if this were just an ordinary package I'd probably wouldn't be blogging about it, but if you know Danni, at least the way I know her through her blog, she doesn't do anything ordinary! She literally puts her heart and soul into her creations! You don't have to just take my word for it, see for yourselves, as I just had to photograph it! Thanks Danni!!

Home Work - Surprise Project

It's been almost two weeks since my someone left for his reserves service, and he finally came home last night for a 3 day R&R. If you remember I mentioned before that the one good thing about him being away for so long, is that I will have a chance to work on a special surprise for him, and so all week I've been busy at it...
What was the surprise you ask? I completely renovated our bed frame, and I did almost all of it by myself (with the guidance of my someone's dad...). You see, the bed frame used to belong to my someones' parents many years ago until it was passed on to my someone. It wasn't completely my cup of tea, specifically since it was in a golden Pine color (which for some reason screams 80's to me...). I've been contemplating buying a new frame all together until I saw this image on Etsy and was inspired to keep the frame, and just tweak it a bit... Well, completely actually. I painted it all black, using black chalkboard paint, and then on the headboard, with the help of my good friends Einat & Alex, we wrote in 33 languages a little note to my someone... Can you tell what that message is...?
I've been sanding, cleaning, painting, cleaning, painting again, cleaning again, scribbling, varnish spraying, and cleaning A-gain, all week long, until it was finally ready yesterday afternoon, just in time for my someone's arrival.

My Someone's Adventures

It's been almost a week since my someone left for his 25 days reserves service. Though I've spent most of that time working at the restaurant I do feel the emptiness of him not being around. At the end of the day it is only me here at home. Luckily for us he is not that far away, and we do get to talk on the phone every day, several times a day! He tells me what's going on, describes the people he's with, the base where he's at, his daily schedule, and the views where he is at, and I picture it all in my head. They are based up north in the Israeli Golan Heights close to Mount Hermon. I've mentioned before that we recently had some major snow fall at the Hermon so I can only imagine how beautiful it must be for the guys up there. But I don't need to imagine it any more... This morning when my someone was out on patrol he grabbed his phone camera (not a bad camera if you ask me...) and took a few snaps and emailed the to me so I can see what he sees up there.

Stormy Weather

This past weekend Israel has finally joined the rest of the Northern Hemisphere and officially welcomed winter. But it wasn't just a late entrance, it was full blown HELLO! On Thursday evening the weather started shifting colder. By Friday morning it was already gray outside, and the wind was blowing like crazy. Then on Saturday came the rain. We received a mega winter storm with heavy showers and crazy winds that lasted until Monday night. Fortunately for me I spent most of the storm indoors, and on Sunday while I was cooped up at home I grabbed my camera and documented the storm from my indoors point of view.

Life Lately

It's been a while since I've let you in and updated you on my life. Not much has changed, but there are a few plans in motion for the future!

It's down season when it comes to weddings, but that's a good thing, cause now I can focus on re-grouping and building up my business. I've partnered up with my friend from work, Oded, who is a fellow photographer. He shoots both steels and video, and so we aim to work together photographing weddings. I am still going to shoot weddings with my friend Dvora, as her second photographer when needed, but that would come second to my work with Oded. We're still in the business developing stage, but we've already come up with a name, and a logo, and we even purchased our web address (though currently GoDaddy is having an ad field-day on there...)
Our chosen company name is F/2 . I'm sure I don't need to explain the name to all you photographers, but for the rest of you, the symbol f/ with a number attached is the indicator of how wide or narrow the camera's shutter opens when you take a photo. It's a little kitsch, but we like it :)

My someone's dad asked me to try and work on a logo and a business card layout for his business. As I mentioned before, he is a building contractor and so I wanted to create something that fits just that. Here is how it came out. Sorry it's all in Hebrew...

On a sad note, my someone is leaving on Sunday for a 25 day reserves service. This will be the longest we have ever been apart and I know it won't be easy!

The only good thing about it is that I will finally have the chance to work on my secret surprise project for him... I will tell you all about it as soon as he leaves...

This week on You See i See we had to photograph Grace. I decided to photograph my friend Racheli at Villa D, a magical events garden that is connected to the restaurant I work for. (There is no website for Villa D, but you can see images of the place here). Besides the fact that she is so naturally pretty and full of grace, I feel this images have a vintage classic look. Wouldn't you agree?

Israel on fire

Yesterday around noon a brush fire started at the Carmel Mountains in Northern Israel. Within a few hours it became the largest fire disaster we have ever known. And it is not yet behind us. It is raging and moving forward, burning everything in it's path.

There is still no clear evidence as to what has caused the fire, though there are quite a few speculations that this was arsenal. The Carmel mountains, nicknamed The Ever Green mountains, are as black as the night. All burnt to ashes. But the biggest tragedy isn't the loss of so many acres of greenery (so far, about 4 million trees), or the loss of homes and property. This fire has taken lives with it. About 40 people lost their lives in a burning bus that got caught in the fire.

As I am writing this post the fire is still raging not too far from me. Only 45 minutes drive from here. There are many out there who are doing all they can to overcome the fire and put it out. Apart from the Israeli forces we are receiving great help from countries around us, including Egypt, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Croatia, Russia, Greece, Cypress, Jordan, England, France, Italy, The US, and from our neighbors, the Palestinians.

Home Work - Our Office Space

For as long as I've been living on my own (flat-mates included) I've been wanting to create my dream home office. I had it all visualized in my head. The plans were all set. I just didn't have the right space for it (or the time & money to invest in it...). When my someone and I moved in to this apartment I could finally see it happening. We have just the right nook for my vision. It took us a few months to get going, and it wasn't such an easy task, but with the great help of my someone's { VERY talented } dad, we finally did it!
Here's a little photo recap of the entire process.

After the walls were painted it took us a couple more months before we finally found the time to continue on with the remodel. My vision was for floating tables and shelves. I didn't want any legs, and that was the tricky part, since the table tops were quite large, how do we get them to float without bending down or getting a center bend (we call that a "belly"). Lucky for us my someone's dad is a constructor and he knew exactly what to do. Watch and learn my dear friends :)

Thanksgiving is being celebrated today all over the United States. As someone who lived in L.A. for a few years I still have a soft spot for this holiday. It's great to have a holiday that makes you appreciate your life and give thanks for all that's good around you.

I am thankful for my amazing someone, my loving parents, another year I got to have my grandpa around, my work, my good friends, and these amazing sunsets that come to visit almost every evening.

Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate!

Shoes window displays

Being a 'normal' girl I love shopping. Every once in a while I have the opportunity to wonder the streets and shop a little. Though I tend to run out of patience pretty quick, I never tire of window shopping. I love seeing what's out there and the way things are being displayed.

Last week I photographed a few window displays. My good friend asked for my help in photographing a few shoe window displays that she took part in designing. I felt like a kid in a candy store. It was all so pretty. (needless to say I wanted to buy almost every pair in those stores!!)

I truly believe that the window display of a store could make it or break it. If the window doesn't attract me it's very likely that I will not enter the store. As it is with most things in life, we "shop" with our eyes first. If we don't like the package we probably wouldn't go on and open it to find out what's in it. Lucky for these shops my friend and the rest of the master-minds behind these displays definitely know what they're doing :)
